Electro-pop upstart rel pretty much came out of nowhere last year to storm YouTube and Soundcloud with her distinctively dreamy sound. The LA-based 20 year old crafts music she has dubbed “evoca-pop”: music, in other words, that makes you think and feel – that radiates emotion. Her debut self-titled EP (released this time last year) was certainly deeply evocative, spawning a much loved mini-hit in the form of “Plateau” and another stand out by way of “Headed For The Sun”. It’s bitter-sweet, deeply thoughtful pop. And that’s something we can always get on board with. It’s no small wonder then, that we jumped at the chance to premiere rel’s latest track, “Factory”. A song about being a young feminist in the 21st century, the cut is a welcome progression on rel’s sound, putting a furious beat against her fierce lyricism while not compromising on the sheer likeability that established her in the first place. If this number’s anything to go by, her upcoming full length album will be pretty special: here’s hoping.”
